Full Summary: A 17-year-old teenager, Itzel, is struggling with depression and anxiety. She is going to Sol y Luna Counseling Services for mental health therapy. Spanish and English interpreter, Luciana, goes to a mental health interpreting session where the mother, Mrs. Ruiz, and the psychiatrist, Dr. Smith, need language access services to effectively communicate with one another. Dr. Smith first meets with the minor, then calls in the interpreter and caregiver to meet separately, and at the end everyone meets in the therapy room.

Main Challenges: The session gets emotional for Itzel’s mother when she is sharing her concerns privately with Dr. Smith. It’s a challenging assignment where interpreter Luciana needs to use her judgment to effectively provide language access.
