Main Challenges
The defendant uses several slang words unique to Cuba, as well as foul language. The register shifts greatly from the defendant to the judge and attorneys, with the defendant using a very low register, and the judge and attorneys using a high register. The defendant will use English words as well, and the interpreter should know to use slang that the defendant is using when interpreting for him, regardless of the proper term in Spanish. Knowledge of legalese and courtroom discussion is expected in this script.
