Privacy Policy
What information do we collect?
We collect the following information when you use Terp:
- Basic account information (username, password, email address, user category, age bracket)
- Time stamps (when account was created, last login time, when you use the platform to practice)
- Voice recordings and comments (when you record your interpretations or your feedback (voice or text) on others' recorded interpretations)
- Browser cookies (only used for user authentication)
- We use Google reCaptcha for security and human verification purposes (only during sign up).
How do we collect your information?
We collect your information using the initial sign up form, through information your browser sends to us (timestamps of user activity, cookies, data captured through Google reCaptcha), and through your interactions with the platform (such as voice recordings and written comments).
Why do we collect your information and how do we use it?
We collect your information for the following purposes:
- ensure all users are human (Google reCaptcha)
- securely authenticate user sessions (username, password, email, browser cookies)
- communicate with you (we collect email and name to send you account creation and password reset emails and to help you with subscription management)
- ensure age-based content safeguards (restrict access to content containing profanity or mature themes)
- provide some users with timelines of your activity (assignment deadlines for instructors)
- allow you and others you authorize to access your voice recordings and comments (reviewing your own practice sessions, reviewing others' interpretations, and providing each other feedback)
- allow us to troubleshoot issues (timestamp data surrounding your activity helps us identify and resolve technical issues)
Do we share your information with third parties?
Some user data is sent to Google reCaptcha to verify that you are a human user and to ensure the security of our platform. Voice recordings are stored securely using Digital Ocean Spaces Object Storage. Voice recordings are only accessible on Digital Ocean's platform by us and are not shared with any third parties.
We do not share or sell any of your information with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
Information shared with other Terp users
Other Terp users can see your name and how many total practices you have completed if you are in the same Community or Sub-Community as them. Admins and Instructors of those Communities and Sub-Communities can see your name and email. Other users cannot see your voice recordings or written comments unless you have authorized them to do so (note that Instructors who are in Sub-Communities you are also in automatically have access to your voice recordings and written comments for assignments in those Sub-Communities).
How do we protect your information?
We take the security of your information seriously. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes secure password hashing, encrypted connections (HTTPS), and secure storage of voice recordings using Digital Ocean Spaces Object Storage, which are made accessible to the Terp platform via securely signed URLs that are only valid for a limited time.
How long do we keep your information?
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. If you choose to delete your account, we will delete your information within a reasonable timeframe, except for any information that we are required to retain for legal purposes.
What are your rights regarding your information?
You have the right to access or delete your information. You can do this by
- password change: logging into your account, accessing your profile, and changing your password (or by using the password reset form if not logged in)
- practice sessions and associated voice recordings: logging into your account, accessing the settings for the practice session in question, and deleting the practice session
- all other user data: contacting us at support@terp.app.
